This week, I had the incredible opportunity to jet off to Las Vegas to facilitate a leadership retreat session for an international gaming company that’s making waves in the industry.
You won’t be surprised to know that I put my heart and soul into every session I lead. My mission? To infuse as much fun, energy, and educational content as possible.
One of the playful exercises I love doing with companies is getting them to highlight the qualities of a thriving leader at their organization. To my surprise, the most emphasized leadership quality during our exercises this week was humility. It’s a trait that I rarely see featured and recognized in the business world, and yet, a company like this one stands out because of it.
Leading with humility doesn’t mean you don’t celebrate big wins and acknowledge exceptional behaviors. Recognition is incredibly important. However, the companies that place an emphasis on humility in their leadership have one thing in common: titles, tenure, expertise – none of it matters. Everyone is hired for being exactly who they are. Every individual is respected, and as a result, their capacity to innovate, grow, and thrive is unleashed.
Here’s the real deal on what happens when you bring humility into your life, both personally and professionally:
Enhanced Collaboration: Team members feel valued and heard, leading to improved communication and innovation.
Adaptability: An openness to examine old ways, making it easier to navigate challenges and stay competitive.
Better Employee Engagement: Employees feel motivated because their contributions are recognized and appreciated.
Trust: Leadership is approachable and genuine, creating stronger working relationships.
Resilience: In tough times, a willingness to learn from mistakes for a quicker bounce-back.
So, there you have it – the power of humility, not just as a buzzword but as a game-changer.
