The other day, I had a conversation with someone who was supposed to help me think about my business. I showed up open, curious, and excited—because my business is growing fast and I love exploring what’s possible.
What I got instead was a flood of advice. He jumped straight to “the solution” without asking many questions or really listening. It felt a little like the parenting advice we all get: “Sleep when the baby sleeps. Enjoy every moment. Don’t forget tummy time.” Well-intentioned? Sure. Helpful? Not usually. Because the advice doesn’t take into account the reality of your life, your personality, or what you’re actually trying to accomplish.
That’s the thing about advice: it’s filtered through someone else’s experience. And when you try to apply it, it often feels awkward, misaligned, or just plain impossible.
Coaching, on the other hand, is completely different. Coaching isn’t about someone telling you what to do—it’s about creating the space and structure to figure out what you actually want, what’s getting in your way, and how you’re going to get there.
Here’s what that looks like in real life:
- Instead of vague pep talks, you get clarity—on your goals, values, and next steps.
- Instead of being handed someone else’s playbook, you get tools that fit your style of leadership and parenting.
- Instead of going it alone, you have accountability, perspective, and support to keep you moving forward.
And coaching isn’t just about solving problems—it’s about transformation. It’s about shifting the way you see yourself, your work, and your role as a parent and leader. It’s about tackling the big goals (career growth, life transitions, what’s next?) and the everyday ones (having more energy, being more present, actually feeling fulfilled).
That conversation I had reminded me of this: advice can be quick, but it rarely creates change. Coaching takes you deeper. It’s not about someone else’s answers—it’s about discovering your own. And when you do, everything shifts.
Sidebar (because I can’t help myself 🙃):
Since things are growing around here, I’d love your input. What would you like to see more of from me? Bigger audiences and stages? More writing? New ways to work with me—like small group coaching, VIP days, or easy-access “mini” offerings? Maybe even something on-demand you can dive into on your own time? Or hey, maybe you’ve got an idea I haven’t thought of yet.
Hit reply (or drop me a note)—all ideas are welcome.
